    SMITH, Marion Edythe, Reg. No. 392

     

    We were very sad to learn from Marion’s daughter that she had passed away earlier this year.

    No obituary was located.

    Marion joined the Edmonton Police Department on March 27th, 1967 as a member of Recruit Training Class # 25. Indicative of the times, her personnel file notes that she was a “Police Woman”*. During her first five years of service, Marion rotated between Juvenile Investigation and Morality Control Units. In 1972, she was transferred to Criminal Investigation Section and had assignments in Youth Section, Internation Airport Detail and Youth Unit in Zone “D”. Promotion to Detective came in 1980 with assignments in Criminal Investigation Section, Zone “B”, Crisis Intervention/Child Abuse Unit and Criminal Investigation Section, Zone “C”. Marion retired from the service on March 27th, 1992.

    * Back in the day women police officers had different Reg. numbers than their male counterparts. Marion’s was PW13.
