    OCTOBER 16, 2022 The family of Marlo Savard are saddened to announce that our beloved brother has ended his watch. He leaves behind his two children, Chantel and Dayton as well as seven siblings. Marlo also leaves to mourn several nieces and nephews as well as three grandchildren. He was predeceased by parents Don and Anita Savard.

    Marlo was very proud of his career with the Edmonton Police and retired with 39 years’ service. He had a real passion for helping those in need and was commended several times throughout his career for outstanding contributions to the community.

    Special thanks to his loving caregivers who made his final years more comfortable. No service by request.

    Marlo Savard began his Edmonton Police service career on, June 14th, 1982. He retired from the service on September 9th, 2021.

    John Allan passed away unexpectedly on September 28th. John’s family wanted to let the EPSVA membership know that he passed away peacefully with his family at his side. His wife Pat is being closely supported by immediate family and close friends.

    At his request, there will be no funeral or service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice. No obituary was located to mark John’s passing.


    John retired from the Edmonton Police Service in 1999. Further information was no available at the time this entry was created.

    It is with great sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of EPSVA member Raymond (Ray) Courtney Smith on August 22nd, 2022. Ray’s Reg. No. is 347 and he retired in 1990. He is survived by his wife Danielle Fortier-Smith. No obituary was located marking Ray’s passing.

    Due to an ongoing issue with the EPS micro fiche system, we were unable to obtain Ray’s full career history. However, we do know that Ray’s EPD engagement date was: September 13th, 1965. He was promoted to sergeant on December 9th, 1985 and that he retired on October 31st, 1990.

    FRANK ARTHUR COLTON 15-Jun-1937 – 20-Aug-2022

    In Loving Memory: On the morning of August 20, 2022 Frank Arthur Colton of Sherwood Park passed away at the age of 85 with his family at his side.

    Frank was born in Kelowna B.C. on June 15, 1937 and was predeceased by his parents Fred and Edith Colton and his brother Bill. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 63 years, Teddi; his children Lesley (Hadi) and Jeffrey; with grandson, Joey. Frank will be lovingly remembered by all that knew him, not only for his strength under adversity and intelligence but for his keen sense of humor and unwavering commitment to his family.

    His family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs of both the Grey Nuns and University of Alberta hospitals, whom over the years gave him such excellent compassionate care.

    A funeral service was held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Sherwood Park.

    And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

    Reg. No 313 Staff Sergeant Frank COLTON joined the Edmonton Police Service on March 22nd, 1965 and retired on June 30th, 1994. Unfortunately, due to a problem with the archival equipment at the police service, we were unable to obtain Frank’s work history in time for this publication.

    Mike Chetek Reg. No. 64 1932 - 2022

    Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend Mike Chetek has finally been taken by the angels to the loving arms of God in His heavenly home on July 3, 2022 at the age of 90.

    We will miss his hugs, his Godly wisdom, his knowledge (especially of “It’s in the garage somewhere, I think.”) and his sense of humor. He was an awesome gentleman who touched the lives of many. His final message is “I have gone to Heaven…Goodbye, Good Luck and God Bless you!

    There will be no service as per his request…“Go to a restaurant with your friends and/or family and laugh and talk about the good times.” From the Serenity Funeral Home web site.

    Mike Chetek began his policing career in Edmonton on December 15th, 1953. During his career, Mike had assignments in Patrol Division, C.I.D. Division, Gaol Section, Court and Summons Section, (Refresher Class # 17 in January 1967), Plain Clothes duty, Court Section. He was assigned to Crime Prevention Unit at the time of his retirement on January 23rd, 1980.

    It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad and husband; on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Allan Lorne Garred of Smoky Lake, Alberta passed away at the age of 76 years.

    Allan is survived by his loving family, his wife: Rita Garred; daughter: Jacqueline (Rick) Smith; son: Lorne (Angie) Garred; three grandchildren: Brooke Garred, Mitchel Smith, Dillon Smith; one cherished great granddaughter: Devaya Garred; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Also mourning his loss are his six sisters: Amy (Lawrence) Tychowsky, Laura (Jim) Zabrick, Susan (John) Kastelen, Joanne (Eugene) Perepeletza, Karen (Blair) Hallet, Audrey Johnson. Allan was predeceased by his parents: John & Jennie Garred; sister: Colleen Sheppard; brother: Gary Garred; nephew: Ronald Perepeletza.

    A funeral Service was held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at the Ukrainian National Hall, Smoky Lake, Alberta with Pastor Reo Ganson officiating.Pallbearers: Wes Hrehorets, Shawn Zabrick, Robert Kastelan, Graham Dalziel, Lawrence Rogoza, Randy Sawchuk. Interment followed at Methodist Cemetery established 1910, located on TWP RD 584A, 0.7 km east of RR 170 in the county of Smoky Lake, Alberta.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Haying in the 30’s, PO Box 35, Mallaig, AB T0A 2K0.

    Allan Garred started his policing career in Edmonton on September 18th, 1967. As a Constable, Al had assignments in Patrol Division and Communications Section. In 1979, he was promoted to Sergeant in Patrol Division. In 1984, Al changed rank to Detective in “C” Division and had assignments in Criminal Investigation Section and Break and Enter Detail. 1989 saw him change rank back to Sergeant in “C” Division where he remained until his retirement on September 18th, 1992.

    Bryce Daniel CLARKE July 8, 1972 - May 16, 2022

    It is with profound sadness that we announce that our beloved son, brother, uncle, and partner, Bryce Daniel Clarke passed away on May 16, 2022. He was 49.

    Bryce lived a remarkable and purposeful life, full of enriching experiences, struggles, and lessons, that made him strong and resilient, while at the same time, kind, loving and understanding. His selfless devotion to better his community and family will be remembered and worth emulating. Bryce is survived by his partner Miriam, his mother Judy, sister
    Jenn, nephews (Kashdon and Reese), brother-in-law Loni, grandparents (Lloyd and Gert), caregiver Nori, and her son Jorge, he will truly be missed by his extended family and friends he loved, and the community he nobly served.

    The celebration of Bryce’s inspiring life was held on 27 May 2022, Friday, at Sherwood Park.

    We all know that Bryce is a big Calgary Flames fan. It would be nice if you could wear something with the Calgary Flames logo, or something red, as we gather to share some of our favourite stories and fun memories with Bryce - moments of resilience, figuring out ways forward despite challenges, stories of kindness, moments of love and selflessness, amidst pain and struggles.

    Wearing a mask is optional, but respectful of those with underlying conditions.

    Note: Bryce’s father Dan (deceased) was a career Calgary police officer and retired from their Homicide Unit.

    Bryce Clarke started his career with Edmonton Police Service on February 23rd, 1998. He spent his first three years in South Division.
    Following his catastrophic injury, Bryce was off duty and on longterm disability until 2009. Remarkably, Bryce was able to return to active modified duties in Homicide Section where he researched historical homicides. In 2017 through March 2022, Bryce was an Acting Detective in Warrant Management Unit. His last assignment was in the Equity and
    Inclusion Unit of Value & Impact Division.
