Vernon Herbert McINTOSH Reg. No. 115 1932 - 2023
It is with the utmost sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle, Friend, And Legend: Vernon McIntosh, on November 17, 2023.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law (Bestie), Barb and Russ; grandsons, Kyle (Tessa), Bevan (Adriel) and his son Tracy; and great-grandson, Sebastian; as well as his
sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and Cliff; and many nieces, nephews, and a very special aunt/friend, Trudy!
Vern was predeceased by his wife, Marlene; son, Arthur; parents, Allan and Irene McIntosh; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Betty; brother and sister-in-law, Mervyn and Mickey, nephews, Ken and Murray; his 1st wife and friend, Audrey; and many dear friends, who Vern considered his family.
Born in 1932, to Allan and Irene, Vern was the 2nd of 4 siblings. Most of his childhood was in the Edmonton area with a family working hard to survive the Great Depression. One
of his favourite places was spending time on the farm with his grandparents, Emmanuel and Ida Kother, in Anselmo. He was given his 1st BB gun around the age of 4! Cans, dry manure, and rocks were his early targets. They were a tight knit family, both immediate and extended.
After some odd jobs, Vern started pouring concrete with his good buddy Al Taylor, then eventually joined the Edmonton Police Dept. His career with EPD spanned 33 years. He was a Beat Cop, a Detective and eventually Staff Sargeant. Through this career Vern acquired lifelong friends that were considered family. Pouring concrete remained an off-duty business until he was 77 years old. Unable to sit idle, and having some spare time, Vern also became a member of the Alberta Fish & Game and any other Fish/Wildlife organization he could get involved with. Serving as President from 1995 - 1997 and holding a number of other positions over the years. He has been an integral part of Conservation and Wildlife in this province until the end of his life!
Dad’s greatest love was fishing and hunting! One could ALWAYS make time for any opportunity to do so!
After retirement, Vern enjoyed more hunting, fishing, gardening on his acreage. He had animal magnetism and all the pets were instantly drawn to him. He’d had loveable dogs
over the years and was likely to keep yours too if you had wanted to leave them behind!
His passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts and the thing we will miss the most are the stories, endless stories. Stories filled with nothing less than laughter, shock and awe! He had a work ethic beyond believable and if you were fortunate enough to spend time with him, he was your friend for life. He always tried to see the best in people and was always willing to help you out with anything.
Funeral Services were held on December 8, 2023, at Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Alberta Fish & Game Association at AFGA.org, or Edmonton Police Foundation Re: Veterans’ Assistance Program c/o 9620 - 103 Ave., NW T5H 0H7, or Edmonton Humane Society at edmontonhumanesociety.com

In mid-October, Dan Small posted on Facebook the below tribute to Wayne Denis from his daughter Giselle Denis-Payne
From Giselle Payne…daughter of Wayne and Cheri DENIS
At approximately 11:20pm on Tuesday Oct. 17th, 2023, my Dad passed away into the next life with Mom by his side.
Dad fought throat cancer hard for 5 1/2 years. Neil and I were at home watching a show when the song came on the soundtrack, “The first time ever I saw your face” by Roberta Flack. I said, “Oh my goodness Neil! That’s my parents song!!” I sent the song to Mom and told her to play it for Dad. She sat next to his hospital bed and played the song for him. A tear came streaming down his face, then she said his face lit up with a bright light and he didn’t look sick anymore. His breathing slowed down and then he was gone.
I wrote this song, “Live til I die” on the day I heard about the cancer. I recorded it with my friends. Mom played this song for Dad during his last few hours on Earth. When Dad was first diagnosed, he said, “Well….I’m gonna live til I die.” And that he certainly did.
I am happy-sad that he has passed on.
Thank you all for your love and support. Love, G

John
Underhill passed away peacefully on August 6, 2023, at the age of 88, with the love of his life, Linda Hardy, at his side who, along with his family, will continue to honour his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. John was very proud of his family: stepchildren and spouses, David and Erin Hardy, and Shauna Hardy and Glenn Mishaw and; his six grandchildren, Sierra, Madeline, Tristyn, and William Hardy, and Calum and Jaxon Mishaw.
Born in 1935, in what is now the London Borough of Harrow, John grew up on the outskirts of London, England. Air raids, shelters and limited food marked John’s young life as WWII broke out in 1939, when he was four. His mother sent him and his younger brother to live in a rural area with lower risks of raids, as they lived only three miles away from the RAF Bentley Priory, the headquarters of the Royal Airforce Fighter and Bomber Groups, and German aircraft were constantly trying to bomb it, taking out many houses in his neighbourhood. At 16, John signed up for cadet force basic training with the London Metropolitan Police Service, and at 18, was automatically called up for two years of mandatory military duty, and because of his affiliation, he went into the military police. He joined the British Parachute Regiment where he served the remaining 15 months of his duty, which was very difficult training and he was one of the 15 out of 200 applicants that received his parachute wings and red beret. John later joined the Metropolitan Police Service and was posted to a station near Buckingham Palace.
John emigrated to Canada in 1957 and was accepted into the Edmonton Police Service (badge #149), starting as a Constable and later promoted to Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, and then temporary acting Inspector in charge of specific administrative areas. He started a revolver and pistol team, and enjoyed competing successfully against Canadian and US teams in the police games. John retired after 34 and a half years in 1990.
John was very active in sports. He loved to golf at The Royal Mayfair in Edmonton and Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale and had a 3 handicap with 8 holes-in-one. He was a true gentleman, had a great sense of humor and zest for life, loved to eat and savored every bite.
John met Linda in 1983, and they have enjoyed over 40 years together, golfing, wintering in Scottsdale and traveling to various places including Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New
Zealand, Alaska, and the US. John was predeceased by his first wife Lilian, father Ernest, mother Violet, and brother Alan.
John passed peacefully after a battle with Alzheimer’s. John’s family wishes to sincerely thank his caregivers Mireille Ares and Susan Ryan, and all of the staff at Touchmark at Wedgewood and Glenora Park by Revera, who helped make his life comfortable in his final year. At John’s direction, no funeral service will follow his cremation. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; children: James (Heather), Edward, Cindy (Mark), Dan (Jeanette), John (Jody), and Brad; grandchildren, Michael, Greg, Kieran, Connor, Danielle, Jack, and Kate; sister June, as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Betty (Keith), brother Bill (Thelma), brother Jack (Deanna), and his parents Edward and Lorette. Jim was born in Alsask, Saskatchewan in 1932, but spent the majority of his childhood in Borradaile, Alberta. Due to the untimely passing of his mother when he was 12, Jim and his siblings were sent to live in various convents in Edmonton. At the age of 17, he started working in construction and then the oil patch. At the age of 26 he began his 25-year career with the Edmonton Police Service where he reached the rank of Detective. Jim married the love of his life Joyce in 1959. Together, they worked hard and raised six children on their farm near Morinville, Alberta from 1970 until 1985.
