    Sydney Herbert (Herb) Arthur Joseph, the eldest of seven siblings, passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta, on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the age of 86 years .“Grandpa” was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed. Herb was born in Saskatchewan and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a military police officer. He then worked in Flin Flon in the mines before joining the Edmonton Police Service in 1955, retiring 30 years later as a Staff Sergeant. He was a passionate volunteer, working with the Edmonton Minor hockey programs and in his retirement with the Edmonton Crime Stoppers and Neighborhood Watch. He was one of the committee members who worked tirelessly to obtain the funding for the first Air 1 police helicopter for the Edmonton Police Service, and he was very proud of that achievement. He was also a dedicated Oilers fan. Herb is survived by his loving wife, Irma Hannah, his children Randy (Bev), Keith (Carla), Allan; his four grandchildren, and his four great- grandchildren. He will also be missed by Irma's family. Herb was predeceased by his wife Edith (2005). A Memorial Service was held on June 16th. A Memorial Service will also be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Wellington Park Community Hall, 13440-132 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T5A 5E2. In lieu of flowers, and in the memory of Herb, the family would appreciate donations to the Edmonton Police Foundation 9620-103A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5H 0H7 in support of Air 1 or to your local Neighborhood Watch or Crime Stoppers.

    Herb Joseph joined the Edmonton Police Department on August 15th, 1955. As a Constable, he was assigned to Patrol Division, Patrol Administration, Staffing Division, Traffic Division, Criminal Investigation Division. Herb was promoted to Detective Constable in 1961 and had assignments in Juvenile Investigation, Crimes Against Property and Crimes Against Persons Sections. Promotion to Detective in in Crimes Against Persons Section in 1968. He changed rank to Sergeant in 1974 moving to Crime Scenes/Criminal History Units. Herb was promoted to Acting Staff Sergeant in 1976 with assignments in Information & Reception Unit, Training Section and Patrol Zone “A”. he was then promoted to Staff Sergeant in 1980 and worked Property Control Unit, Patrol “C” and Traffic Section. When he retired on February 17th, 1986, Herb’s Reg. No. was 111.

    After a lengthy illness, Arnold passed away in May. He is survived by his wife Nada, his four children and 19 grand children. Pursuant to his wishes there was no funeral or memorial service. His family held a gathering at Arnold’s favourite chinese restaurant to celebrate his memory.

    Arnold Moser became a member of the Jasper Place Police Department on May 19th, 1958. He became a member of the Edmonton Police Department on August 17th, 1964 and over the course of his career, he was assigned to Patrol, Communications and Identification Section. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1973 and worked in Criminal History Unit and Crime Scenes Examination Unit. A rank change to detective followed in 1977 when he transferred to Youth Section. He spent some time in Internal Affairs Section and returned to Youth Detail in ‘A’ Division from where he retired on January 7th, 1984. When he retired, Arnold’s Reg. No. was 291.

    Norman John STALKER

    Norm passed on May 8th. He was predeceased by his wife. The family advised that no public ceremony will be held. (No obituary was found)

    Norm Stalker joined the Edmonton Police Department as a member of RTC #24 on September 12th, 1966. During his career, Norm had various assignments in “B” Division and Downtown Division. He also worked in Communications Division. When Norm retired on April 11th, 1997, his Reg. No. was 383.

    It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Robert (Bob) Boyd at Leduc, Alberta at the age of 79 years. Bob passed away peacefully in the Leduc Community Hospital surrounded by family. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife Helen of 56 years, son Rob (Wendy) Boyd, daughter Laurie (Rene) Hamel, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many extended family members and friends. Bob was predeceased by his dad, William (Scotty), mom, Katherine, stepdad, Michael, brother, William (Bill), and sister, Lois. A Celebration of Life was held in Edmonton. Thank you to the Doctors and nurses at the Leduc Community Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmonton Cross Cancer Institute.

    Bob Boyd joined the Edmonton Police Department on August 16th, 1959 as a member of Recruit Class No. 10. After his obligatory Patrol assignment, Bob moved to Communications, back to Patrol and then to C.I.D. in July 1967. Later that year he was promoted to Detective and stayed in that rank for most of his career with assignments in B & E Detail, Morality Control Unit, General Investigation Unit. For a short while prior to his retirement on August 16th, 1981 Bob was assigned to Tactical Unit. His Reg. No. was 198.

    It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Roy Larson on March 10th, 2017. Roy was born September 21, 1929 in Gwynne, Alberta. He is lovingly remembered and will be forever missed by his wife Evelyn, his 3 daughters, Karen (Jeff), Kristine (Ian) and Corinne (Grant) and 2 stepsons, Dwayne (Gwen) and James (Vivian). Grandpa Roy was also so proud of his 10 grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren. He is survived by 1 brother, Helmer, 3 sisters, Lorraine, Shirley and Eileen and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 1 brother, Gordon. Roy was a proud 33-year veteran of the Edmonton Police Service. He was also a member of the Shriners Al Shamal Temple (Arab Patrol) and Unity Masonic Lodge #51. A Memorial Service was held March 16th, 2017 at Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Parkinson's Canada or Pilgrim United Church Memorial Fund.

    Roy Larson began his career with the Edmonton Police Department on November 13th, 1951, and was immediately assigned to Patrol Division. During the years that followed he transferred to Traffic Division, back to Patrol, to C.I.D., Fraud Branch and Morality Control Unit. In 1977, Roy was promoted to Inspector in Youth Section. He later moved to Fraud and Commercial Crimes Section and was a Duty Officer when he retired on February 12th, 1984. At that time, Roy’s Reg. No. was 34.

    We were very much saddened when we learned recently that EPSVA member Kelly Rockwood passed away on March 13th, 2017. No obituary or other information is available. Kelly’s wife, Debbie, is an Honorary member of the EPSVA.

    Kelly Rockwood started his career in policing in Edmonton on March 9th, 1970 as a member of Recruit Training Class 32. As a constable, Kelly was assigned to Patrol Division, Communications Section and Task Force Section. In 1981, he was promoted to detective in ‘C’ Division. Over the course of the next twenty three years, Kely had other assignments in Strike Force Unit, CIS ‘B’ Division, Child Abuse Unit, Homicide Unit, Sexual Assualt Section, Parole Apprehension Unit and High Risk Offenders Unit. Kelly retired on June 3rd, 2003. After retirement, Kelly worked as a casual evaluator in Communications Section (2006/2007).

    Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Daniel Bruce Jones of St. Albert passed away after a lengthy illness, on February 23rd, 2017, at the age of 62 years. Dan will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend, Jo-Ann and his children, Cameron (Robyn), Matthew (Holly), and Katelyn (Scott) Semple. Dan will also be fondly remembered by his nine grandchildren; sisters, Candice (Alan) MacLean, and Karen MacLean, as well as his extended family and dear friends. A Celebration of Dan’s life was held at St. Albert.

    Dan Jones joined the service as a pre-hire in Court & Gaol Division on April 23rd, 1979 and then joined Recruit Training Class #54 on May 22nd, 1979. As a Constable, Dan had assignments in Patrol Divisions “B” and “D”, Communications Section, Task Force Section and also Fraud & Commercial Crimes Unit. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1990 and his assignments included CIS and Patrol in Downtown Division, Communications Section and Serious Habitual Offender Unit. Promotion to Staff Sergeant in South Division followed in 1997. Most of the year 2000 was spent on a NATO Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo. Later Dan was assigned to West Division and Major Crimes Division. He was promoted to Inspector in Major Crimes Division followed by an assignment as Duty Officer from which position he retired on October 11th, 2007. Dan’s Reg. No. is 1118.

    We were advised that Chris passed away on February 23rd, 2017. Unfortunately no obituary was located for Chris.

    Chris joined the Edmonton Police Department on March 27th, 1967 as a member of Recruit Training Class #25. During his career his assignments included Patrol “D”, Gaol Section, Crime Index Unit, Municipal Airport Unit (multiple assignments), and Property & Towed Vehicles Unit. Chris was attached to the Municipal Airport Unit when he retired on January 3rd, 1995. His Reg. No. was 393.

    Ted passed away peacefully December 2, 2016. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jean Taylor; four children, Bob (Roxanne), Ben (Mona), Maurice (Linda), Helen (Vince); ten grandchildren, Brook, Robyn, Haley, Reid, Ryan, Mark, David, Michael, Deborah, Peter; three great grandchildren, Paige, Kit and Mateo. Born in a thatched cottage in Leckhampstead, Berkshire, England, he emigrated to Canada with his family in 1957. He served with the City of Edmonton Police for 27 years attaining the rank of Inspector. His hobbies included; gardening, fishing, reading and recreational flying. As per his wishes there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to charity of your choice.

    Edmonton Police Department Recruit Class 7 commenced on April 14th, 1958 and included recent immigrant from England, Ted Taylor. After 6 years in Patrol he moved on to Identification Section. Ted was promoted to Sergeant in 1967 and moved back to Patrol. He also worked Gaol Section in that rank. Promotion to Staff Sergeant came in 1972 and it looks (from the file) like he remained in Patrol Division. In 1975, Ted was promoted to Inspector and had assignments in Patrol Divisions “C” and “D”, Special Investigations Division and Crime Prevention Section. Inspector Taylor retired on April 15th, 1986 at which time his Reg. No. was 161.
