    Passed April 16th, 2015

    ROBERTSON, Robert Boyd(Bob/Robbie) passed away on April 16, 2015 at Laurier House in Edmonton, AB. He is survived by five children: Rob, Janice, Doug, Kathleen (Wayne), Connie (Scott); eight grandchildren; sister Donna; and brothers- in-law John and Tom Frook. Bob was predeceased by wife Gladys (Frook), infant daughter Elizabeth Ann, parents Wes and Mabel Robertson, and parents-in-law John and Beulah Frook. Bob married Gladys (Frook) in 1955, and, two years later, the young family moved to Edmonton, where Bob joined the City of Edmonton Police Force. Following his retirement from police work, Bob worked several years at the Alberta Law Courts. Bob, born in Winnipeg but raised in Gull Lake, SK, was a gifted athlete who also enjoyed war history, music, travel, sports, and, in later years, crossword puzzles! At age 15, he won the Saskatchewan Junior Baseball Championship in 1949. He was a skilled defenseman, and played hockey for the 'Hounds, the Moose Jaw Canucks, Regina Pats, and Dunfermline (Scotland) Vikings. He was an avid “Rider Fan” his entire life. He will be remembered for his warm, gentle personality and all his wonderful jokes! If you wish to remember Bob in a tangible way, feel free to donate to your favourite charity. We encourage you to celebrate his life by doing something which you might enjoy… give a random act of kindness, watch a ball game, whistle a tune, sip a Scotch, complete a crossword puzzle, enjoy an ice cream cone… and think, “Here's to you, Bob!” A celebration of life to follow.

    Bob became a member of the Edmonton Police Department on August 27th, 1956 as a member of Recruit Training Class #4. His first few years were spent in Patrol Division and he transferred to Traffic Section in 1962. Later assignments included: Juvenile Investigation Unit, Warrant & Document Service Unit, Firearms registration Detail and Security Clearance Detail as well as other Patrol assignments. Bob was accorded the honour of wearing Badge Number 1 prior to and up until his retirement on January 23rd, 1984.

    The family of Peter Hlushak is saddened to announce his passing on April 7, 2015 at the age of 78 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Emmeline; sons, Peter (Lisa) and Russ (Amanda); grandchildren, Jacob, Logan, Russell and Emellia; sister, Virginia; sisters-in-law, Anne, Gladys and Betty Anne; brothers-in-law, Ron and Larry; and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Eva; brothers, Russell, Arthur, Amil, and Clarence; and half-sister, Olga. Our family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Southgate staff for Peter's care for the past six years. Also the Grey Nun's Emergency Department and Unit 43 for being so compassionate in Peter's last hours. We're sure he's looking down at us all from up above and wondering what the fuss is about. It's because you will be missed. Divine Liturgy was held on Saturday, April 18.     Reg. No. 489 Peter Paul HLUSHAK became a member of the Edmonton Police Department on December 11th, 1968. After a short stint in Patrol, he moved to Traffic Section where he remained until 1973 when he transferred to Crime Scenes/Criminal History Units. He later moved to Evidence Processing Unit and was promoted to sergeant there in 1978. Peter also served as sergeant in Crime Scenes/Criminal History Units until his last transfer to Victim Services Unit in 1984. Peter retired from the service on September 12th, 1986.

    DROPKO, Albert passed away after courageous battles with cancer, heart, lung and other internal problems.Albert will lovingly be remembered by his one son, Andre and three daughters, Contessa (Colin Jewall – Kelowna, B.C.), Denise, Lise. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Nigel, Nathan, Dana, Ayla, Kisa and Cezanne and a brother in law Dr. Bernard D'Aoust (Norma). Albert and his wife of 62 years, Laurette (predeceased July 10, 2013) believed that these excerpts (taken from the poem 'Dirge Without Music' by Edna Saint Vincent Millay) aptly expressed the end of life.I am not resigned to the shutting away of loving hearts in the hard ground… Into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely… Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave… The intelligent, the witty, the brave. I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned. Respecting Albert's wishes, his body will be donated to the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine for study and research and no service will be held.     Reg. No. 32 Albert Dropko joined the Edmonton Police Department on August 1st, 1951 and he was immedioately assigned to Patrol Division. In 1962, Al had a couple of short “stints” in Central registry and Communications Section then, in 1963, he transferred to Traffic section. January 1972 saw Al participating in Refresher Class #17 and later that year, he transferred to Tactical Analysis Unit. Promotion to sergeant, in Patrol Division, came in 1975. As a sergeant also worked in Gaol Section. He changed rank to detective in 1977 and his assignments included Youth Section and CIS “A”. Al retired on January 2nd, 1984.

    Richard passed away at the age of 69 on Wednesday, January 21, 2015. He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Carol; son, Rick (Linda) his children: Alicia, great-granddaughter Danika, Jamie, Amanda Stevens; daughter, Jacquie (Brad) Warkentin, her children Brianne, Brittani; daughter, Sherri (Jer) Milne, her children Kaity, Rory. Hutch was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Margaret Hutchinson, as well as his son JayR. Hutch served with the Edmonton Police Department for 35 years. Those who knew him, knew he loved his job, it was his second family. After retirement from the force, Hutch started a new career driving a bus for 10 years with Cunningham Transportation. A viewing will be held Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services - Harmony Chapel, 10541-81 Ave., Edmonton. A Memorial service will be held at Calvary Community Church (Millwoods Christian), 8704 Mill Woods Road NW, Edmonton, Saturday January 31, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow.

    In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Edmonton Police Veteran's Association, Alberta Diabetes Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

    Reg. No. 623 Richard (Rick) HUTCHINSON, known to many as “Big Hutch” became a member of the Edmonton Police Department on September 28th, 1970. Graduating from Recruit Class #33, his first assignment was to Patrol Division. In 1974, Rick was assigned to Court Section for a year after which he transferred to Traffic Section. In 1980, he transferred back to Patrol Divisison “C” where he stayed for 10 years. Traffic was in his blood though and he returned to Selective Enforcement Detail in 1991 and remained there until his retirement on October 19th, 2005.

    It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Brian Robert Clauson of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta on January 9th, 2015 at the age of 56 years. Brian served a long and distinguished career with the Edmonton City Police and retired just a few months ago. Brian served with integrity, compassion and a dedication to excellence. Brian is survived by his parents Neil and Kay; wife Joanne; daughters Nicole and Kelsey; son Brendan; brother Wayne and his wife Dorothy. Their children Anthony and Victoria , Julia , Heather and Mark. A celebration of Brian's life was held at Fort Saskatchewan on January 16th. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to The Brian Robert Clauson Memorial Scholarship Fund to be set up in the near future. Gord and Cindy Kadatz managing directors.

    Reg. No. 1050 Brian Clauson joined the Edmonton Police on August 14th, 1978 as a member of Recruit Class No. 50. During his career Brian had assignments in Patrol Division “A”, Crime Scenes/Criminal History Unit, Patrol Division Downtown, the Municipal Airport, North Division Patrol, and Communications Division as his longest and last assignment. Brian retired from the service on October 5th, 2013.

    Sad to say one of the best persons I've had in my life, has left for his final journey. Known by myself, his family and community, he would put twenty dollar bills in envelopes and hand them out to seniors at Christmas time. If he ran into someone hungry or that needed his last five dollars he would just give it. Ed was a Decorated Policeman, Decorated Soldier, a hunter, VP of Hinton Search and Rescue, Father, Brother, a mentor and a man of God. A Celebration of Edward's Life took place on Saturday, December 20th at the Hinton Royal Canadian Legion. May he continue this journey in his next life. The family suggests that, if desired, a donation can be made to The Hinton Baptist Church, Box 6471 Hinton, Alberta T7V-1X7 in Edward Federation's memory.     Ed Federation joined the EPD, as a member of Class #33, on September 28th, 1970. After a couple of years “on the street”, Ed had a number of brief (relief) assignments in Communications Division and Court & Summonse Section. Later, Ed transferred to Gaol Section followed by assignments to Information & Reception Unit and Communications before heading back to Patrol Division “B” in 1979. After that Constable Federation again provided short term support in Property & Towed vehicles Unit and Communications Division. In 1989, Ed returned to North Division and retired there on April 11th, 1997. When he retired, Ed’s Reg. No. was 607.

    On November 26, 2014, Donald Hugh Henderson passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gertie; children, Jim (Marjorie) of Edmonton; Barb (James) of Calgary and Rob (Susan) of Edmonton; six grandchildren, Cory (Lisa), Brent (Jenn), Darryl (Stacey), Lyndsey (Josh), Kailey and Cole; four great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Blair, Logan and Rylynn. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Louise and brother, Bob. Donald was dedicated to community service, however being a member of the Edmonton Police Department for 27 years was his most honoured role.Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Michael's Extended Care for their kindness, care and respect, making each and every day the best it could be for Don.     Don Henderson became a member of Recruit Class #8 on September 16th, 1958. After a few years in Patrol, he transferred to Identification Section and was promoted from within to Acting Sergeant in 1970. Don managed Crime Scenes/Criminal History Unit then Evidence Processing Unit before being promoted to Staff Sergeant in 1975 in Patrol Division “B”. Another promotion to Sub Inspector came in 1977. Don spent some time in Patrol Division “A” before moving on to Communications Division. He then moved to Crime Prevention & Internal Affairs Division as Superintendent in 1981. A move back to Patrol Division “A” in 1983 was Don’s last transfer before his retirement on September 14th, 1985. At that time Don’s Reg. No. was #178.

    It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Tough after a 3 year fight cancer. Dave spent the last eight weeks in The Royal Alexandra Hospital and passed way, with his family beside him, on November 23rd at the age of 85 years. Dave was one of the founding members of the Edmonton Retired Members Guild. His wife, Irene, advises that the family will grant Dave’s wish to have a private cremation ceremony with only immediate family present. Dave has two grandchildren, Malcolm 26 yrs. and Meghan 24 yrs. Should anyone wish to pass on condolences, Irene lives with her son Donald at his residence at 8516-18 Ave. SW, Edmonton, T6X 0R7, ph. # 780-438-1622. Irene would welcome contact by Dave’s former colleagues and squad members from his time as a Patrol Sergeant.



    The records show that Dave Tough became a member of The Edmonton Police Department on October 12th, 1955. After the usual start in Patrol Division, Dave had assignments in Gaol Section and Traffic Section. He was promoted to Acting Detective Constable, C.I.D. in 1966 and to Detective in 1967. As a Detective he worked in General Investigations and Break and Enter Detail. 1975 saw Dave go back to Patrol as a Sergeant. He did go back to Gaol Section for a year before going back to Patrol Division “C”. In 1982, Dave took his last assignment as a Detective in “C” Division retiring on January 11th, 1983. At that time Dave’s Reg. No. was 122.

He was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Bill Buckam. His Funeral Service was held on November 16, 2014.     Al Buckam became a member of EPD Class #33 on September 28th, 1970. He was then assigned to Patrol where he remained until 1980 although he had several short term assignments to Communications, Property Control Unit and Patrol Administration. In May 1980, Al transferred to Property Control Unit, an assignment he kept until he retired on November 20th, 1992. When he retired, Al’s Reg. No. was 601.
